As oily sludge on a ship is either burned in the incinerator or discharged ashore in port, it is important to keep the water content in the sludge to a minimum. Oily sludge is often a mixture of fuel oils, lube oils, hydraulic oils that may have different properties and densities. Water can be found in pockets at various levels in the sludge tank and some oil types will emulsify the water so it cannot be separated by gravity. The oily sludge tank is often situated in the double bottom making the separation of water challenging. The Marinfloc Sludge Dewatering Unit will continuously dewater the sludge and keep the water content to a minimum.
