In 2015, world leaders agreed to 17 Global Goals. These goals have the power to create a better world by 2030, by ending poverty, fighting inequality and addressing the urgency of climate change. Guided by the goals, it is now up to all of us, governments, businesses, civil society and the general public to work together to build a better future for everyone.

Marinfloc is committed to working towards the global goals and want to inspire and involve others to join in.

Below are the goals we work with:

Goal 14- Life below water

Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.

Healthy oceans and seas are essential to our existence. They cover 70 percent of our planet and we rely on them for food, energy and water. Yet, we have managed to do tremendous damage to these precious resources. We must protect them by eliminating pollution and overfishing and immediately start to responsibly manage and protect all marine life around the world.

This goal is hand in hand with our vision “a clean sea. By producing water treatment systems, these prevent harmful substances from polluting the sea.

Locally Marinfloc arranges a yearly clean-up day where we remove plastic debris from the shores of the beautiful island of our head quarters - Orust.

Goal 7- Affordable and clean energy

Our current reliance on fossil fuels is unsustainable and harmful to the planet, which is why we have to change the way we produce and consume energy.

Marinfloc has installed solar panels on the “White House”- the new office building in the SW corner of our property in Varekil. The total capacity of producing 34kw and with our location in Varekil the 950 standard sun hours per year will produce > 31.000 kWh per year. The surplus energy that we do not use ourselves is exported to the grid. In Sweden heating is the main energy consumer for a house and the entire building is equipped with heat pumps. The daylight wintertime in Sweden is scarce so the solar panels will not suffice during winter but the power we buy originates from certified renewable resources. For the really cold days we need to start the boiler, but it is fuelled by diesel 100% made of renewable resources. The trucks, forklift and legendary bus are all powered by biofuel. Marinfloc has a charging station for electric cars at our facilities allowing visitors and employees to charge their cars with solar electricity.

Goal 15 - Life on land

Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification and halt and reverse land degradation and bio diversity loss.

A flourishing life on land is the foundation for our life on this planet. We are all part of the planet’s ecosystem and we have caused severe damage to it through deforestation, loss of natural habitats and land degradation. Promoting a sustainable use of our ecosystems and preserving biodiversity is not a cause. It is the key to our own survival.

Sweden has traditionally been a country of small-scale farmers where the landscape has been carved out by sheep, cows and scythes for thousands of years. This landscape has been overgrown since modern agriculture too over and the flowers and insects that depend on the open landscape are lost as the habitat disappears.

Marinfloc has constructed a meadow in the north west corner of our property in Varekil instead of cutting it as a lawn. The first year has been dominated by various grass species but several flowers have bloomed attracting butterflies, bees and other insects. The meadow is a long-term project and is cut by a mower beam and scythe and the vegetation is removed to avoid fertilisation. This will increase the number of flowers successively.

Goal 12 – responsible consumption and production

Our planet has provided us with an abundance of natural resources. But we have not utilized them responsibly and currently consume far beyond what our planet can provide. We must learn how to use and produce in sustainable ways that will reverse the harm that we have inflicted on the planet.

Marinfloc has thoroughly reviewed and implemented strict routines on the chemicals used in our facilities. Our waste is sorted in various fractions and recycled. The equipment we deliver is designed to last the lifetime of the vessel. A life cycle analyse is performed were also the recycling of the equipment after the vessel has been scrapped is considered. We also renovate old Marinfloc equipment that has been brought from scrapped vessels and make this equipment ready for new vessels.
